3 FSSAI News for the December month!!!

We are back with some major scintillating FSSAI News for the week. FSSAI has initiated productive measures in order to spread food safety. Let us have a quick glance at the news and stay updated.

FSSAI NEWS 1. FSSAI shall organise an event on healthy eating habits

National Eat Right Mela is an initiative by FSSAI which will be scheduled from Dec 14-16 in New Delhi. This event is aimed at making people aware of safe and healthy eating habits which are imperative to the current generation.
This event will provide knowledge on all the food safety precautions and quick adulteration methods which people can use it easily. This will serve an excellent opportunity to all the people attending the event. The event will have many activities and conversations with the food visionaries and experts including chef Sanjeev Kapoor. Such events will be further organized in all the major 40 cities of India to spread awareness on food safety.

FSSAI NEWS 2. New guidelines on nutraceutical ingredients will be adopted by India in order to follow best practices

With the neutraceutical industry growing by leaps and bounds, it will get a new set of guidelines on the botanical ingredients in the forthcoming year. The science-based guideline document will be submitted to FSSAI by February 2019.

According to F&B News, “The working group has been formed by the United States Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) and the Association of Analytical Communities (AOAC) International India to lay the guidelines for quality standards of Schedules IV and VI of the nutraceuticals regulation listing plant or botanical ingredients and nutraceuticals ingredients. The two schedules belong to the regulation – Food Safety and Standards (Health Supplements, Nutraceuticals, Food for Special Dietary Use, Food for Special Medical Purpose, Functional Food and Novel Food) Regulations, 2016.
The guidelines will result in uniformity, best analytical practices around the world and robust proposals on various issues of food analysis.

FSSAI NEWS 3. FSSAI issued standards for supplements for two & three-year-old kids

FSSAI will be formulating new standards for supplements which shall contain all the nutritional values for the children of age group two and three years. This is for the first time that FSSAI has proposed the standards for the two and three-year-old.

The current amendment will be the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Eleventh Amendment Regulations, 2018. The standards relate to the use of carbohydrates such as sucrose, dextrose and dextrins or maltodextrin, maltose and lactose provided that the energy produced by sugar should not exceed 10% energy of the product. The Gazette has also mentioned the minimum and maximum use of chemical components such as zinc, vitamins, minerals, calcium, acidity regulators, anti-caking agents, and added flavors.
